We created a buzz-worthy, strategic communications plan to showcase the efficacy and innovation of Thermacell products and encouraged consumers to experience a mosquito-bite-free-summer, by making a single purchase.

The Solution

We Spread the Word about Thermacell‘s Odourless, DEET-Free, and Mess-Free Repellents

We excited Canadians about being able to enjoy the great outdoors without the buzz of pesky mosquitoes or the need to apply smelly chemicals to your skin or clothing.

National Data on Pest-Free Summer Fun

We set Canadians abuzz with a national survey about outdoor pests such as mosquitoes, and how these little biting-machines affect our enjoyment of summer and outdoor activities. The results conclusively showed that mosquitoes are one of our least favourite things about summer, and Canadians wanted some serious help.

  • 80% of Canadians agree that mosquitoes are one of the worst parts of Summer.
  • 90% of Canadians say that they can enjoy themselves more when they know they are protected against mosquito bites
  • 85% of Canadians say preventing mosquito bites are important to them
  • Over half (55%) of Canadians have come indoors from an activity in order to escape mosquitoes

National Media Relations

To generate positive branded coverage across Canada, we shared our survey results with media in a buzz-worthy, data-driven press release. Our proactive media relations successfully generated tremendous interest through wonderful and relatable storytelling and positioned the Thermacell products as the Must-Haves for this summer’s outdoor adventures and recreation time. We pitched lifestyle, outdoor, entertainment, sports/leisure and consumer media, bloggers, influencers, and tastemakers covering a wide variety of relevant and timely topics. We provided the opportunity to test out the full range of Thermacell Repellents products and share their experience with their audience. Coverage highlighted the effectiveness, the style, and simplicity of the products.

National Media Tour

We made mosquitoes big news in Canada. Television hosts and on-air ambassadors spoke about the innovative products on lifestyle television shows and as the Thermacell stories were featured on TV, the products began selling out. It was clear that we had uncovered a relentless obsession with being able to enjoy our Canadian nature without the after-pain of mosquito bites.

Media and Influencer Giveaways

Lifestyle content creators and television shows, such as BT Vancouver, shared Thermacell Summer Enjoyment prize packs with fans and viewers to further engage consumers. Influencers hosted giveaways live on Instagram, and created their own authentic stories and posts about how Thermacell let them reclaim their backyards, patios and great outdoors...without pesky mosquitoes.

Influencer ‘Surprise and Delights’

To extend the reach of our program, we engaged with a large number of social media influencers and content creators. We sent ‘surprise and delight’ Summer Fun mailers to notable lifestyle influencers, with everything they needed to enjoy more time outside mosquito-free! Unboxing videos helped propel our messaging of how to enjoy a mosquito-free summer with Thermacell.
