They say if you’re not the lead dog, the view never changes.
This is especially true when it comes to advancing the interests of Black, Indigenous and People of Color, BIPOC.
We are grateful so many are climbing onboard, but far from everyone is making a difference.
An UN-award winning leader in our field and “the best PR firm in the world,” we thrive because we believe change begins at home. If we can make our world and our clients’ worlds markedly better in supporting diverse people, more inclusive practices, and smart workable ideas, then we’ll let the rest of the world take care of itself. And if some of our ideas work well elsewhere, we’re thrilled to send them on.
To that end, we created SOAR, Strategic Objectives Alliance for Representation. SOAR has three parts: Education and Resources, Action, and Corporate Culture and Policies.
We are scanning the world as well as our own back yard, for the best and brightest practices for moving marginalized people and ideas to centre stage.
For this, we must open our eyes and ears, and press “receive” rather than “send.” We test our programs on ourselves first, to see which parts work best, and share key learnings with our clients and community.
After all, inclusion isn’t just a nice-to-have these days. It’s how to attract and nurture talent, enter new markets, reap rewards, and do well by doing better.
