Introduces Ten of its Best-Selling Bars to Quebec
Chocolate lovers rejoice! Green & Black’s Organic, the luxury chocolate maker and world’s first organic chocolate brand, is coming to a store near you! The world-renowned UK brand is introducing ten of its most indulgent chocolate bars including Green & Black’s Organic Dark 70%; Dark 85%; Dark Chocolate and Ginger; Dark Chocolate and Mint; Dark Chocolate with Hazelnut and Currant; Milk, containing 34% cocoa solids, creating a great tasting milk chocolate bar; Milk Chocolate and Almond; White Chocolate; Milk Chocolate and Butterscotch; and Maya Gold – the first ever product to be awarded the Fair Trade Mark.
To celebrate the launch into Quebec, Green & Black’s Organic partners with Chef Laurent Godbout of restaurant Chez l’Épicier in old Montreal to prepare ten sweet and savoury Green & Black’s Organic recipes, including two new ones created exclusively for the Quebec launch (see attached). “Working with the complex flavours and premium ingredients of Green & Black’s Organic chocolate is a real treat!” said Chef Godbout. “Having so many delicious and diverse flavours to experiment with is both a challenging and unique culinary journey. Green & Black’s Organic inspired me to push the boundaries of taste in developing this one-of-a-kind menu for a delicious chocolate experience.”
Chocolate with a Conscience
Green & Black’s Organic believes it is possible to respect the earth while indulging in the best things it has to offer. Since its beginnings, Green & Black’s Organic has been committed to making the finest quality chocolate using only organic ingredients.
Furthermore, Green & Black’s Organic recently announced its commitment to move its entire chocolate bar range, worldwide, to be Fair Trade Certified. This move makes Green & Black’s Organic the world leader in organic and Fair Trade chocolate. The farmers who grow the premium ingredients that go into the Green & Black’s Organic chocolate bars receive a fair and guaranteed price for their crop and a social premium that is invested back into their communities.
“I am thrilled that Quebecers can now enjoy Green & Black’s Organic, a premium, fair trade chocolate brand that is dedicated to making delicious, sustainable chocolate,” said Jordan LeBel, Ph.D., Food Marketing Professor at Concordia University, author and Pleasure Specialist. “Having been a fan of Green & Black’s for many years, and having seen the company’s work first hand in cocoa plantations, I am delighted to help share their story about chocolate quality and how the brand’s team works closely with the cocoa farmers and their communities to produce its premium organic and fair trade chocolate. This is something we can all be proud to support.”
From Bean to Bar
Green & Black’s Organic uses fine Trinitario cocoa beans, principally from the Dominican Republic, to make its chocolate. Fine or flavour cocoa beans make up approximately 4% of the world’s production[1] and vary greatly in flavour, depending on their genetic make-up and where they are grown. They have a more complex flavour than other cocoa beans.
Great care is taken to ensure the cocoa beans are grown under eco-friendly conditions that do not harm their rainforest surroundings. The cocoa pods containing the beans are harvested at their peak of ripeness before the beans are extracted and later hand-assessed. Only the very best beans are used to make Green & Black’s Organic premium chocolate.
“I am passionate about chocolate and enhancing the tasting experience,” said Micah Carr-Hill, Head of Taste and Product Developer for Green & Black’s Organic. “From the very first time chocolate lovers try Green & Black’s Organic chocolate, they immediately recognize the superior cocoa quality and the inclusion of the finest ingredients.”
Celebrating Chocolate with Quebec
At last! Green & Black’s Organic is available in 10 irresistible flavours at several Organic, Health Food and Independent retailers throughout Quebec, including Rachelle Béry, Marchés Tau, Avril, Healthtree and La Moisson. The suggested retail price is $3.89 per 100g bar. Whether you prefer Dark, Milk or White, there is a Green & Black’s Organic chocolate bar for everyone.
- Fans of dark chocolate will love Green & Black’s bittersweet Dark 70% bar. Let a single square slowly melt in your mouth and see how many flavours you can pick out: coffee, roasted and savoury notes, bitter cherry, vanilla… our original dark chocolate is anything but plain. If you like an even more complex, full-bodied flavour; look no further than the Dark 85% bar! The powerful cocoa hit softened and sweetened using aromatic Madagascan vanilla.
- For a warm indulgence, try the rich taste of Green & Black’s Dark Chocolate and Ginger bar. Made with organic crystallized ginger pieces and intense dark chocolate, this bar’s bittersweet tangy taste will be a hit with any dark chocolate connoisseur.
- If you are looking for a fresh and cool taste, try Green & Black’s Dark Chocolate and Mint bar. This is the perfect combination of cool mint fondant and Green & Black’s signature Dark chocolate.
- Milk how it was meant to be – intense and complex, satisfying and full-flavoured. Green & Black’s Milk chocolate bar will thrill milk chocolate lovers. The bar contains 34% cocoa solids, a higher standard than the 20-25% found in many other milk chocolate bars, giving this bar delicate savoury notes not often found in milk chocolate.
- If you like almonds, you will go nuts for Green & Black’s Milk Chocolate and Almond bar. Leaving the roasted, unblanched Sicilian almonds whole encapsulates their savoury nuttiness. As it melts, the cocoa-rich, bittersweet milk chocolate coats every crunched nutty surface, giving a sublime taste and texture combination.
- For an exotic taste experience, try Green & Black’s Maya Gold bar. The history, mystery and culture of these Ancient people come together in this spiced, heady bar coupling a zesty orange hit with vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg, redolent of the ceremonial drink the Mayans drank – chocolatl. The Maya Gold bar is also the first ever product to be awarded the Fairtrade Mark.
- If you’re craving the ultimate creamy vanilla experience, try Green & Black’s White Chocolate bar. Plenty of cocoa butter, for a smooth texture and creaminess, and a dose of Madagascan vanilla offers a depth of flavour rarely achieved in a white chocolate.
- For those who love the unmistakable molasses flavour of traditional butterscotch, Green & Black’s Milk Chocolate and Butterscotch bar is the bar for you! Crunchy pieces of molasses-rich butterscotch burst through our cocoa-rich milk chocolate, the treacly, buttery notes complementing the caramelly, cocoa notes of the chocolate.
- Green & Black’s Dark Chocolate with Hazelnut and Currant is an aromatic treat for chocolate lovers who enjoy the delectable combination of fruit and nuts. Sweet, roasted hazelnuts are added to our 60% dark chocolate and perfectly balanced with the sweet/sour notes of currants for a nutty crunch punctuated with little bursts of fruity flavour.
